I have always trusted Black Diamond climbing gear, and this is no exception. I have always used a Black Diamond Figure 8 belay device, but I bought the Big Air Package for my 10-year old son who just started climbing. The ATC makes it easier for my son to control the rope when belaying or rappelling. My husband had also always used a Figure 8, but he liked the ATC so much, we bought 2 more. The package arrived was delivered as scheduled.

If you're looking for a cheap ATC and biner combo this is the one. It doesn't have some of the fancy features of others, but its a great starter kit. I primarily use it for gym climbing, but its not bad for outdoor use too (what little I've done anyway). So far not disappointed.
Oh and fine for repelling too.

I received this package as a component of an even larger package (this plus chalk, bag, and harness).
I've been using this package for indoor climbing. The belay device is almost perfect. Of course, loading is extremely easy, and the rope moves VERY smoothly. It's a significant improvement over a Mad Rock model that I have also used frequently. It's also true that it will stop a fall with little effort. The only (slight) issue is that it requires a little bit more force to maintain the locked off rope position than some others, surely because of the smooth, low-friction finish.
The Screwgate carabiner is great for one-handed operation. Once the lock has been twisted into the unlocked position, it stays there. The gate can then open and close freely, until you decide to twist the locking mechanism back into the locked position. It takes two fingers to lock/unlock, and then your hands are free to manipulate the gate, items attached to the biner, etc.
They're both great items, so if you can save a little money by getting them both together, then I say do it!
